"Rooted in the Word -- Reaching out in Worship and Service"

We are Not AloneWe Are Not Alone: Studies in the Covenant of God is a study of the theme of covenant throughout Scripture. It is one of the important themes of the Bible. No study of the Scripture is complete without delving into what some consider to be the central truth which ties the Old and New Testaments together.

This book was designed to be used in small group settings. It can be profitable in home Bible studies, Sunday school classes, and retreats. There are scriptures to be looked up and questions to be answered throughout each chapter. The covenant is studied as an unfolding revelation beginning with Adam and progressing through Noah, Abraham, Israel, David and finally as it is fulfilled in Christ. In studying the book you will understand the Old Testament sacrificial system and Christ's institution of the New Covenant at the Last Supper in a new light. The final chapter "The Covenant and You" is a practical application of the principles learned. An opportunity for each person to make their own covenant with God is given.

The book is published by Bristol House Ltd. and may be purchased by calling 1-800-451-READ. The cost is $7.95 plus S&H. You may also order by sending $7.95 plus $1.50 S&H to Mulberry Street United Methodist Church; 205 N. Mulberry St.; Mt. Vernon, OH 43050.

Discipleship and Small Groups in the Life of the Church: An Investigation of the Spiritual Formation Process is a 190 page book written as a project for the Doctor of Ministry degree.  It explores the biblical background and rationale for small groups in the opening chapter and then goes into the history of small groups.  Various stages of history are explored in which small groups were used, including: the early church, the reformation, Puritans, Pietists and Methodists.

Contemporary trends are also introduced.  The project itself included three test groups which measured the effectiveness of small groups in the spiritual formation process by using pre- and post-tests.  An appendix gives a host of helpful material, including the tests used in the project.  The book may be obtained through an inter-library loan from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio.
